It has been a heck of a season, and honestly, we can’t believe how quickly it flew by this year! We wrapped up What the Truck?! in Churchill Square on Friday, September 11 with 35 trucks, and had a fantastic time doing so. The weather was beautiful, the lines were short, and the food was amazing – the trucks really outdid themselves!
We received excellent feedback from attendees that evening about the increased event space, more room between trucks, and having more places to sit down and enjoy their meals. With more than 250 menu items, if you are a fan of having options, this was the event to be at!
This event introduced 8 new trucks to the crew for this event – Bo Thai (who super old school WTT fans might remember from long ago), Calle Mexico, Canadian Brewtruck, Da Vinci Gelato, Hot Mess, Pampa, The Pie Eatery and The Wafflery, and we had an excellent night dancing with our dinner to some awesome tunes from DJ Thomas Culture, Brad Wilkinson, DJ Dylan Gray, The Hugonaut, and DJ EK!
September 11 also marked a very special evening in What the Truck?! history! Edmonton City Councillor Andrew Knack stood in as a “much shorter Mayor Don Iveson” to present us with a proclamation from the City of Edmonton, and September 11, 2015 went down in history as “What the Truck Day”!
On top of the trucks, DJs and Councillor Knack, we would be remiss if we did not thank a handful of people for helping bring our finale event together!
Our volunteers are second-to-none, and our events would not be possible without each and every one of you. (If you’re interested in volunteering next season, send us an e-mail to team@whatthetruck.ca!)
We also want to thank the Downtown Edmonton Community League, GFL Environmental Corp and St. John Ambulance – You guys rock!
And last, but most certainly not least, we want to thank YOU! Without attendees, we’d simply be a group of people hanging out for dinner in a really big space, and we can’t express how thankful we are that time and time again, Edmontonians have spent their hard-earned free time (and cash) coming out our events in the midst of a summer full of festivals, all in the name of supporting local businesses.
If you came to even ONE event this season, we’d love to get feedback from you about how you thought this year went, as well as listen to any suggestions you have for locations, entertainment, or anything else event-related! Just like the Golden Ticket cards, we read EVERY entry (and sometimes you’ll see changes or event locations that you suggested), and you can let us know your final thoughts for the year here!
We will be looking to add one new team member to the group in the new year, so if you think you’d be a wicked addition, keep your eyes on the website for a detailed post at the beginning of 2016. We can’t wait to see everyone out again next season!
