May 28 & 29, 2016 What the Truck?! @ Northlands Line-Up

Can you believe it’s already May? Food truck season is among us! Great to see so many food trucks up and running already. We’re kicking off the season with not one but TWO days of food truck goodness! This year we’re expecting to have over 40 trucks at Northlands, which will be our biggest yet!

Without further adieu, here are the trucks who will be participating in our May event. We will be adding more trucks as we confirm final details, so please check back!

Food trucks help Fort McMurray evacuees at Northlands

Last week wildfires forced the evacuation of Fort McMurray and destroyed or damaged thousands of homes and other structures in the city. Many are temporarily calling Edmonton home as a result and individuals and organizations all across our community have stepped up over the last week to help. Tonight the local food truck community had an opportunity to help in our own unique way!

Northlands planned an outdoor BBQ for evacuees registered at the Edmonton Reception Centre and they reached out to us for some assistance cooking French fries. We put the call out to all the food trucks and very quickly had twelve that stepped up to offer their deep fryers and time:

Throughout the evening guests had the opportunity to get outside and enjoy piping hot French fries from those trucks. We’re thrilled to have played even a small part in helping displaced Fort McMurray residents feel more comfortable during their time here in Edmonton.

2016 What the Truck?! Team Member Recruitment

“Hello, is it me you’re looking for?”

Well, it might be!

The 2015 season went by in what seemed like a flash, and for the WTT team especially, the end of the year was very bittersweet. If you haven’t already read her heartfelt farewell post, Sharon’s yellow What the Truck?! jacket has been hoisted and hung from the rafters. We can’t begin to put into words how dearly she will be missed, and our team dinner meetings are certainly not the same without her.

Just like the Edmonton Oilers will never have another Mark Messier, Jari Kurri, or Wayne Gretzky, we aren’t looking for the next Sharon Yeo for the 2016 season; they can’t be replicated or replaced. We are looking for a few new members to join the team… but this year, we don’t have a clear-cut idea as to who we’re looking for quite yet, and it’s probably because we haven’t met you. Wrap Up: Friday, September 11, 2015 What the Truck?! Finale

It has been a heck of a season, and honestly, we can’t believe how quickly it flew by this year! We wrapped up What the Truck?! in Churchill Square on Friday, September 11 with 35 trucks, and had a fantastic time doing so. The weather was beautiful, the lines were short, and the food was amazing – the trucks really outdid themselves!

We received excellent feedback from attendees that evening about the increased event space, more room between trucks, and having more places to sit down and enjoy their meals. Can you believe that tomorrow is the big day? This summer feels like it flew by, but lucky for us, we’ve got one more day with a forecast of 25C and SUNNY!
