A New System for a New Location

As you know, this Friday is our first What the Truck?! Event at Northlands Park and we’re all chomping at the bit to host a What the Truck?!  night in conjunction with Park After Dark. This event will also be our first licensed event, meaning you can enjoy an alcoholic beverage along with your food truck dishes.

You may have noticed in our menu announcement that the menus had fewer feature dishes than previous events. As you know, our number one issue with our events is that lineups can get long. We heard your frustrations after our May Churchill Event that some items sold out while you were waiting in line for them, and we’ve decided to test a ticket-based line management system for the first time on Friday.

Meet the Trucks: Sculpt Foods

In this week’s Meet the Truck series, we are featuring Sculpt Foods – a new truck serving up German comfort food.

Darin – Sculpt Foods

Why did you start a food truck?
Food has always been one of my (our) passions. I jumped off the corporate ladder to pursue something that I’ve always wanted to do, cook good food. To open a food truck was the perfect opportunity for me personal because it is seasonal, work the summer and R&R fall and winter. I look forward to bringing new flavours to our city streets.

What kind of food do you serve?
Our street food will be primarily German. Our catering menu will be all over the board from Burgers and Dogs to fine dining.

Who can we see on the truck?
I’m glad to say that I will have my family by my side in 2015. I’m Darin and with me will be my wife Carmen and my three daughters Natasha, Naomi and Abigail.

Where will you be serving?
My vending location for now will be at the North East corner of 108st and 99ave.

What makes your truck unique?
I think the selection of German favorites will bring something new and exciting to our fine city.

What is your favourite item from a food truck that is not your own?
We spend a lot of time in Mexico, so I would have to say tacos from Casa12Doce

Country that inspires you the most (related to food)?
This is a tough one, so I will list two: Mexico and Japanese.

What do you hope to see or get out of the 2015 season?
It would be a successful first season for Sculpt Foods if we were accepted in the food truck culture and to bring smiles of satisfaction to my customers.

This event will also be a first in What the Truck?! history. Northlands Park is a family-friendly licensed venue (similar to local restaurants), so you will be able to enjoy an adult beverage with your food truck eats!

If you’re still hoping to bring your little ones, the event grounds are all-ages, but if you wish to keep them separated from the rest, don’t worry – there will also be designated alcohol-free space.

Stay tuned for more information about participating trucks, menus, and site map information!
