August 24, 2013 What the Truck?! Menus

We’re just over a week away from our next big event, and we hope you’re getting as excited as we are!

What: What the Truck?! at Louise McKinney

Here are the menus you can expect that night:

Battista’s Calzone

  • Spicy Italian Calzone – locally made Italian sausage, peppers and spices
  • Vegetariano Calzone – peppers, mushrooms, onions, and olives
  • Classico Calzone – capocollo, salami, peppers and oniones


  • Fried Bacon Bully Mac Bites with Baconaise – creamy 6 cheese Bully Mac with smoky bacon, green onions coated in panko and fried crispy with Chef-made Baconaise
  • The Craziest Philly Beef Ever – Indian-spiced beef with lemongrass, ginger, and white onion gravy served on fresh naan bread with paneer cheese, pickled red onions and crispy fried onions
  • Stuffed Pork Loin with Thomson Cherry Alberta Whiskey Jus – bacon and ground pork mixed with fresh herbs and garlic stuffed inside Alberta Pork topped with Thomson cherry whiskey jus; served with truffle potato salad and lime scented local corn

Recap: Truck Stop in The Quarters

Up against some stiff festival and event competition (Thursdays in the summer are jam-packed with things to do!), we were a bit worried about the turnout leading up to the July 25, 2013 Truck Stop. But with the draw of four of Edmonton’s newest food trucks, and the opportunity to tour the Boyle Renaissance Plaza, we were happy with an estimated turnout of 1,000 people that night.

The Food Fighter, La Poutine, The Local Omnivore and Swich served up their creative take on street food, including fig and bacon sandwiches, pulled pork poutine, inside-out grilled cheese and green curry chicken sandwiches!

In order to ensure finances wouldn’t be a barrier to enjoy the event, the Boyle Street Community League sponsored a significant number of vouchers that were distributed to low-income residents and community members. It was such a generous gesture that we really appreciated.

It was great to see the plaza animated with crowds, and the age range of those who came out, too!

City of Edmonton staff offered free face paining for children (and “adventurous adults”), and also conducted tours of the new building.

Virgin Radio provided us with an upbeat soundtrack throughout the evening, making sure those passing by in their cars knew there was a party taking place!

Join us in The Quarters tomorrow (July 25) for Truck Stop!

We’re excited to see all of you tomorrow in The Quarters for our next Truck Stop, taking place at the Boyle Renaissance building (103A Avenue between 95 Street & 96 Street) from 5pm to 8pm.

Boyle Renaissance

Here are some details about the event we wanted to highlight:

  • We encourage you to take public transit or to walk, but if you want to drive there is of course street parking available in the area, as well as at the old York Hotel site (10401 96 Street). The lot is directly north of Fire Hall #1, and it’s first-come, first-served.
  • While you’re at the event, there’s lots to do! Of course you’ll want to eat – here are the menus.
  • There will be picnic tables on site for your use.
  • City staff and YMCA volunteers will be on-hand to provide tours of the new building.
  • There will also be children’s activities at the building, including face painting!
  • Our friends at 104.9 Virgin Radio will be on-site providing some tunes.

The forecast looks great (knock-on-wood) so come and enjoy tasty eats from four of Edmonton’s newest food trucks. We hope to see you there!

We’re looking for individuals who might be interested in joining our organizing team!

As you may know, What the Truck?! is organized by myself and Sharon. That’s not to say that we do everything ourselves – we’re very grateful to have amazing partners and volunteers that work hard to help make our events successful. This is now our third season, and I think it’s safe to say we’ve come a long way since our first event in Beaver Hills House Park! We’ve added new trucks, visited new locations, worked on policy, grown our online presence, and much more.

Now we’re ready to add to the organizing team. If you’re passionate about food trucks and want to get involved in helping What the Truck?! grow and evolve, we want to hear from you. Some of the responsibilities include:

  • Event planning including venue selection and logistics
  • Coordinating with food trucks
  • Managing social media and other promotional efforts
  • Working with partners and sponsors
