What the Truck?! Update

What The Truck?! at Capital Boulevard (May 2018)
What The Truck?! at Capital Boulevard (May 2018)

It’s almost food truck season and we are very excited that the trucks will be out and about soon! As such, we also wanted to provide some updates on the What the Truck?! front.

Over the off-season, we have been reflecting on our mission and goals, and while we remain ardent supporters of food trucks, we are changing the way we can support the food truck community.

As food truck culture in the city has evolved, What the Truck?! has also evolved and we moved away from many smaller truck stop events to a handful of larger scale events throughout the season. However, we have now reached the time where we will be stepping back from organizing food truck events under the What the Truck?! banner. We’re now going to focus on promoting food trucks and food truck culture through our website and social media.

Our goal has always been to promote food trucks and food truck culture to Edmontonians and our events have been a big part of that over the years. Watching the number of food trucks grow over the past several years and seeing trucks being incorporated at various events has brought us a lot of joy! Food trucks are a part of the fabric that makes up the Edmonton food scene with a presence on the streets, markets and events!

We are proud of what we have accomplished and the role we have had in promoting and supporting food trucks in Edmonton. We remain passionate about food trucks and will continue to provide a linkage for event organizers to reach out to our membership via the “Book the Trucks” form. We are also planning to re-develop our website to provide you with more information about the trucks as well as to promote and share other events involving food trucks.

Thank you to everyone who has ever attended a What the Truck?! event! We couldn’t done it without you and we look forward to running into you in a food truck line this season!

Eat Street is coming to Edmonton!

Edmonton’s food truck scene is set to gain even more momentum now that popular Food Network show Eat Street is coming to our city!

Eat Street

Eat Street producer David Freeman sent us this message about the upcoming trip:

“They say an army marches on it’s stomach, well so does a city in my opinion and Edmonton is certainly marching forward with a growing appetite and Eat St. is happy to feed that need by highlighting the biggest and best food trucks around. As a new city to the Eat St. fold, Edmonton has shown us that it’s not who is first to the party, or who has the most trucks per capita, but the quality of those trucks that rise to the surface.

Eat St. will be filming in Edmonton between August 7th and 9th, filming three fantastic trucks: Molly’s Eats, Drift and The Act. Come along to all and help celebrate a taste of your town.”

Here are the details:

  • Tuesday, August 7th: Molly’s Eats @ Sir Winston Churchill Square from 11:00am  – 1:00pm
  • Wednesday, August 8th: Drift @ 107th St. and Jasper Ave. from 11:30am  – 1:30pm
  • Thursday, August 9th: The Act @ Sir Winston Churchill Square from 11:30am -1:30pm

Stick those dates in your calendar now and get out and support Molly’s Eats, Drift, and The Act next week. We’re very excited to welcome Eat Street to Edmonton!

What the Truck?! at Victoria Promenade – Friday, August 3, 2012

We’re very excited for our next big event taking place this Friday evening in Oliver along the beautiful Victoria Promenade! Below you’ll find all of the important details. Please pass this along to your friends, and we’ll see you there!

Victoria Promenade

Date, Time, Location

The event takes place this Friday, August 3, 2012 from 5pm to 9pm. The location is Victoria Promenade, which is technically 100 Avenue. We’ll be located between 121 Street and 119 Street, which gives us a fantastic view of the river valley.

Here’s a map to help you find us:

There is limited street parking in the area, so plan ahead. We’re just a block south of Jasper Avenue though, so there’s lots of bus routes that go by.

Lineup & Menu

We’ve got full menu information online here, so you can plan what you want to try ahead of time. The lineup includes: The Act, Battista’s Calzones, Carnival Cravings, Drift, Eva Sweet, Filistix, The Lingnan, Molly’s Eats, Nomad, and Smokehouse BBQ.

Partners & Sponsors

We couldn’t have done this event without the enthusiastic support of the Oliver Community League, so big thanks to them! They’re hosting a Community Social following What the Truck?! at the Oliver Community Hall. You can find all the details here.

We’re very excited to once again have the Urban Monks DJs providing some beats for us during the event! Make sure you stop by and say hi to Thomas and Marc!

At our last event in conjunction with Al Fresco, we had Tri-Line Disposal sponsor us by providing toter bins for waste. We’re very lucky to have them back as a sponsor again this time! Leaving the area as clean or cleaner than when we found it is very important to us, and it becomes a much easier job with Tri-Line’s help.

Spread the word!

Come hungry on Friday and be sure to tell your family, friends, and colleagues too! We have ten trucks this time – let’s show them how much Edmonton loves mobile food! Our Facebook event is here.

We had some exciting news this week with the announcement that Eat St. is coming to town, and we’ll have some other announcements on Friday too. Don’t miss it!
