Last but not least, we’d like to introduce you to Su Dennis. Some of you may recognize Su, as she’s been one of our long-standing day-of volunteers:

1. My day job is…

Nuclear Medicine Technologist and I work for the great group of folks at Medical Imaging Consultants.

2. Why did you decide to get involved in What the Truck?!

I decided to get involved with What the Truck because I want these events to continue; i want them to become bigger and better, and i want them to happen more often. I am pleased to be a new member of the planning committee, and will be helping with event day site set-up and clean-up, waste management and volunteer recruitment. If anyone reading this would like to volunteer on event days, drop me a line.

3. What is one of your favourite local food truck items?

Asking what my favorites are, is like asking a mother, ‘who her favorite child’ is. Just cant be limited to one! I LOVE sandwiches and burgers. I LOVE fried stuff. I LOVE dessert items. I LOVE trying new-to-me flavors. So i guess you could say, i just plain LOVE food truck food!

4. What is one type of food truck cuisine you’d like to see served curbside in Edmonton?

I think there are so many trucks out there now, it would be hard to conceive of any type of cuisine that is not served in #yeg! I have never been left wanting, that is for sure.

5. What about the food truck scene are you most looking forward to in 2015?

I am excited to try some of the new trucks, and to welcome back all of my old favorites. In the heat of the season, I have been known to eat food truck food MANY times each week. My goal is to try as many new trucks as I can.

Meet the Trucks: Fab Food on Four

In week 2 of Meet the Trucks, we’re featuring a new truck that also serves in the St. Alberta area. Meet the faces behind Fab Food on Four.

Why did you start a food truck?
People love food trucks, and we love preparing delicious food. We are passionate about food and want people to enjoy our home inspired favorites. We thought it would be fun to participate and share our food at the different events.

What kind of food do you serve?
Our Menu contains our fabulous favourites.
Bobba Louie’s Pulled Chicken, with our homemade family inspired BBQ sauce.
Taco Stuffed Baked Potate, with taco beef, jalapeño, and a fresh slice of avocado.
Fab Fiesta Torta, with shredded beef on a bun topped with an egg, onions, peppers and fresh avocado.
Gratzle’s German Spaetzle, with homemade egg noodles topped with slow roasted port and sweet red cabbage.
Buffalo Jo, spicy ground chicked topped with our carrot-celery relish.
And our Fab Poutine: hand cut fries topped with our homemade gravy and cheese curds.

Who can we see on the truck?
Paula – President of Fabulous Food
Curtis – Director of Delisciousness
Madison – Mayor of Flavortown
Kiera – Red Hot Chili Prepper
Braden – Socia Media Guru

Where will you be serving?
We will be serving the Edmonton and St. Albert Area.

What makes your truck unique?
That we are a family run business, sharing our homemade traditional family recipes.

What is your favourite item on another food truck that is not your own?
Jimmy Poblano‘s Machaca beef.

If you had to fuse two completely different cuisines together, what would they be?
German and Indian Cuisine

What do you hope to see or get out of the 2015 season?
Sharing our fabulous food with fabulous people

Meet the Organizers: Mikhaila Skehor

Next up in our series highlighting our new organizing committee members, we’d like to introduce Mikhaila Skehor:

1. My day job is…

Account Manager at Kick Point, a digital marketing agency located in downtown Edmonton.

2. Why did you decide to get involved in What the Truck?!

Like many Edmontonians, I live for when the weather is decidedly not-winter, and one of my favourite parts of the summer is to hit up the many What the Truck?! events (and the trucks that attend them) and experience the variety of cuisine they offer. It didn’t hurt that my dear friend Melina is also on the organizing committee, and had a blast being involved last year. I saw how much fun she was having and wanted in!

3. What is one of your favourite local food truck items?

I’d have to go with Attila the HUNgry’s chicken and waffles. The savory/sweet syrup combined with a healthy topping of kimchi makes it a must-have for me. Last year, I attended almost every chicken and waffle serving they had thanks to the HUNgry team tweeting me when it was C&W day!

4. What is one type of food truck cuisine you’d like to see served curbside in Edmonton?

This is majorly impractical, but I’d love a pho truck. Pho is one of my favourite things to eat and I wish I could find it on a truck.

5. What about the food truck scene are you most looking forward to in 2015?

I’m looking forward to trying out all the new trucks on the scene. Food trucks in Edmonton have exploded and I’m excited to try out the new offerings, and learn about the all the behind the scenes action at WTT?!

Meet the Organizers: Katherine Tam

We’re nearly ready to announce the details of our first event of the season, but in the mean time, we’re happy to say that our What the Truck?! team has expanded! We’ve welcomed three new faces to our organizing committee, and over the next few weeks, we will be introducing each of them.

First up, Katherine Tam:

I work for a couple of trucking companies doing the accounting and helping run the offices.

2. Why did you decide to get involved in What the Truck?!

I have been a fan of What the Truck for awhile and absolutely love the energy it brings to Edmonton and wanted to be a part of it.

3. What is one of your favourite local food truck items?

Drift’s pork belly sandwich! I tried it at Taste of Edmonton a few years ago and starting following them everywhere which eventually lead me to a What’s the Truck event so you can say it was my “gateway” food truck item.

4. What is one type of food truck cuisine you’d like to see served curbside in Edmonton?

Dim Sum!

5. What about the food truck scene are you most looking forward to in 2015?

Looking forward to all the new trucks.
